NGC 4157

NGC 4157 is a relatively close, edge-on intermediate spiral galaxy located in the constellation Ursa Major . Its speed relative to the cosmic microwave background is 963 ± 14 km/s , which corresponds to a Hubble distance of 14.20 ± 1.01 Mpc (∼46.3 million ly ) 1 . NGC 4157 was discovered by German – British astronomer William Herschel in 1788 .

NGC 4157 was used by Gérard de Vaucouleurs as a galaxy of morphological type Sc sp in his galaxy atlas 6 , 7. NGC 4157 is part of a large group of galaxies with at least 41 members, the M109 group.
